The 2nd Annual Advanced EMS Workshop successfully built on last year's workshop. More than 60 college and university EH&S professionals attended this session. The highlights of the workshop included:

Learning about the Washington State University EMS "model" in which students enrolled in an EMS Class assist the EH&S Department in evaluating campus environmental impacts and working on EMS oriented initiatives
Hearing about efforts to integrate sustainability initiatives into campus efforts to improve environmental performance
Listening to EMS case studies from Rochester Institute of Technology, MIT, UMass Boston, Washington State University, and Rhode Island School of Design
Discovering the availability of a customizable sustainability planning tool, the SD Planner, developed by the Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI), which may serve as a useful framework to identify sustainability opportunities on campus. The C2E2 will be evaluating whether this tool can be appropriately customized to meet the needs of colleges and universities.
Learning about one way (The Balanced Scorecard) to organize and structure performance measurement
Gaining insight to the ISO 14001 registration process for a college campus
A facilitated, structured roundtable discussion exploring the status of EMS initiatives on campus and the presentation of those results at the close of the meeting.
A relaxed learning environment, which included beautiful fall foliage, a wonderful dinner at Six Mile Creek Vineyard and great Cornell hospitality.
