Welcome!

This is the official home page for Cornell’s safety, health and environmental management system, the “Cornell Management System for Safety, Health and the Environment (CMS).” The CMS is currently being designed, so this website will continue to change throughout this process. From this site you can:

  • Search for specific safety, health, and environmental management information at Cornell
  • Learn about where we are with the CMS development under CMS Evolution
  • Learn about the people and teams that will make the CMS a reality under Roles
  • Find tools that we are using along the way, like Single Point Lessons under Communication
  • Read updates on the CMS through our CMS Corner newsletter and presentations recently given on campus under Communication
  • Find links to articles about why a management system is needed under Others in the News

What is the CMS

"A set of management processes and procedures that integrate compliance and selected other objectives into day-to-day decisions and practices to benefit organizational performance. The system distributes responsibility throughout the organization, monitors performance and initiates corrective and preventative actions." (Reference a single point lesson (pdf) that describes the CMS.)

CMS Vision

Cornell University will create and maintain a flexible, supportive, and user-friendly management system to integrate environmental, safety and health programs into everyday decisions and practices of the Cornell community of faculty, students and staff.
